Not much is known about my great grandfather James Madison Starkey. I belive his parents was James Starkey born Ala and Sarah Earp and that Sarah's father was William Earp...No proof as yet.   There was a  James Starkey and  James Earp from Alabama,[ I think in the  late1700's or early 1800's ] that started the town of Earpville,Tx , later to become know as Longview,Tx.....   Nearly all the Earps in or around Upshur Co.Tx  had a daughter named Sarah, so just not sure who her  parents are. Nothing is known of any brothers or sisters of James Starkey  at this time.

 James Starkey was blind in one eye but no one knows how it came to be. He has one grandchild living but she dosen't know.

He was born between  1866/ 1868 Upshur / Gregg Co. Tx. died 15 March 1949 Houston, Harris Co,Tx  buried West Mt.Cem.in Upshur Co. Tx.  unmarked grave, married 22 Dec 1886 Upshur Co.Tx to  Lula Calhoun born Sept 1870 Tx. died  between 1910 and 1915 Upshur Co,Tx. buried West Mt. Cem, unmarked grave, daughter of John C. and Parthenia __ unknown Calhoun.   [  James' marriage record states birth as 1866., the death record states 1868.  [ census close to 1866 ]

Icie / Icy / Ivy ? M. Starkey  born Aug 1897 Tx died  Oct 1972 Mineola, Wood Co.  Tx. buried West Mt. Cem married Hardy Moody Sr,  son Hardy Moody Jr.,  born 10 May 1914,died 23 Dec 1979,buried Locust Grove Cem,Upshur Co,Tx. Daughter Jackie Moody, no data as yet.  Icie was buried under her maiden name.  

James William  A." Bill " Starkey born 9 Jan 1895  Upshur / Gregg Co.  Tx   died 1968 / 1970  Houston,

Harris Co, Tx.  Served in WW1 as a Pvt.   Never married.  Houston National Cemetery, Houston,Harris Co.Tx  states he was born 28 Jan 1895 and died 10 Feb 1968. He was buried 13 Feb 1968

Valder Walter or Walter Valder  Starkey born 1909 Tx  died 1943 Tx,  married 20 Dec 1943 Tx. to Mary Madeline Gage born 14 May 1925  died 11 Nov 2002.

Arnold Benjamin Starkey born  8 Oct 1899 Upshur Co. Tx  died Jan 1977 Okmulee,Okmulee Co,  Ok, married Dora Walker [ his wife was Indian ] I barely  remember her but what I do remember she was a very nice person.

I have a marriage record for a James Starkey and a Miss Letha Paralee Davis born c. 1855 Ala. .

A message from another person told me that Leatha Paralee Davis married  c. 18 Jan 1874, 1st to James Starkey and 2nd ,c. 4 July 1883 to G.W. Bryce. I have traced this Leatha Davis Starkey Bryce and on 1880 census for Prec. 3 Upshur Co,Tx she is listed with 3  children,  Lelia Starkey, Lillie M Starkey born c. 28 Jan 1877 Miniola,Tx,[ married Mr Bradley] ,  Jeptha Starkey. Leatha's parents was Elias C. and Letha Morris Davis.married c. 19 July 1838 Saint Clair, Ala. Census for 1880 Upshur Co.Tx states Leatha [ Morris ]  Davis 67 born SC, with son Albert Davis 21 born Ar, grandson Benjamin Davis 16 born Tx..

SC. to Mary Roberts " Polly "  Wilson  born c  3  May 1821 Pickins Dist.  SC  died 17 July 1887 Calloway, Upshur Co.. Tx. buried Little Mound Cem.,  daughter of Andrew and Willie Sanders  Wilson.
