Let me say that most of these statements are unproven by any means other than word of mouth. I cannot prove any connection to the Sims line untill you get to Thomas and Mary F. Henderson Sims. The Horn family branch can prove they are of this line as they have records showing both Sims and Bowman families.  We have been unable to find anything as yet to say for sure.  Please double check all facts !!!!   I cannot stress enough about taking unproven work and using it as truth.  The following pages are just that, "UNPROVED"  

 

 

Asahel ( Asa) Sims / Simms / Symes/ Simmes

 

I should start by saying that Asa's parentage is unproved at this time  but some family members believe  it was Thomas Sims  son of John and Ann Griffin Sims , not proven. Ann was the daughter of William and Rachel Griffin. John’s parents are not known at this time..

 

Asahel was born between 1796 / 1797 in S.C.   He died between 1860 / 1870 Cherokee Co. Ala. as per census records, he was  married   to Ruhanna Bowman, daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Skiles Bowman.  Ruhanna went by several first names according to census records as Annie, Lovuamy and possibly others.  More about Asa later

Not sure if these are true children of marriage, there seems to be a lot of confusing information out on the web for this Sims family.....  Will do more research.

James, John, Moses,  nothing is known about the first 3 children and there may have been more but not known at this time. The 4^th child Michael Micajah or Micajah Michael was born 1819 SC and married Eleanor " Nellie " Blaklely

 There may have been other children of the marriage / marriages of Thomas  Sims possible son of John and Ann Griffin Sims but will leave it at that untill other information comes in. Could Thomas have been married twice , could the wives of Thomas been the same one using different  names as census takers are prone to do??????????   Could Micah / Micajah  be Asa / Asahels brother ???

Asahel {Asa} Sims  and Ruhanna Bowman married  Ala or Tenn, and had five children that as per census and family members were able to find. There may have been more but untill descendant’s come foreward I will stay with what I have. Another name for Asa could have been “Ace”.     Asahel was in  the Indian Wars of  Tenn.  Mike Sims has found the War Record for Asa Sims, He was enrolled June 23,1836,Bledesoe Co,Tn for 12 months and was dischared July 31,1836,so he didn;t stay in long according to Muster Roll.  He was a Private.

I’m sorry to say that both James Thomas and wife Mary's  day and month of birth and  death dates were lost over time as they were never recorded as far as we know but a couple of great grand children has had a headstone placed on spot where they thought the couple were buried and added as close to what they figured the dates would be as per census , birth,death and marriage records of children.

 

There may have been more children for Asa but as per census, family memories,death , marriage records, this is all we have for now.
